To download LiDAR GIS data extracts for use in ArcGIS (or compatible) desktop applications, use your ArcGIS Online account** or KanPlan account using the instructions outlined below: 

1. Click on a link below for the feature layer you wish to download. If you are not already signed in to your ArcGIS Online account** or KanPlan account, click Sign In at the top of the web page.

2. Click on “Export Data” and then select the format of your choice. This will export the data to your ArcGIS Online account.

3. Once the export has completed, a new page will open. Click the "Download" button.

4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 as needed.

To create an account, go to ArcGIS Online: 

Click Create an account.

IGNORE Start a free trial -- Create a trial account.

Scroll down: Under Create a public account, click Create an ArcGIS Public Account.

Type your first name, last name, and email address. Retype your email address to confirm.

Read the ArcGIS Online terms of use and privacy policy.

Check the boxes to agree to the terms and policy and click Next. 

ArcGIS Online sends you an email with a link to continue the creation of your account. Open the email and click the link provided or copy it to your browser's address bar and press Enter.

Provide a username that contains 6 to 128 alphanumeric characters. You can also use the following special characters: . (dot), _ (underscore), - (hyphen), and @ (at sign), but not as the first character. Other special characters, nonalphanumeric characters, and spaces are not allowed. Your username cannot be the same as your password.

Provide a password that contains at least eight characters and at least one letter and one number. Your password is case sensitive. Your password cannot be the same as your username.  Weak passwords won't be accepted. A password is considered weak if it's a commonly used password such as password1 or includes repetitive or sequential characters—for example, aaaabbbb or 1234abcd.

Retype your password to confirm.

Select a security question and type an answer. This information is used to verify your identity in the event you forget your password.

Click Create account.  You are automatically signed in to the website.

Those highways so designated by the Kansas Department of Transportation as provided by law. These highways carry Interstate, US, and K-route designations.

These data were intended primarily for use by KDOT as a reference as well as a means of tracking its assets, which are limited to the State Highway System. Additional factors include limitations to related funding and the amount of time required to complete this effort for all local, public roads. The 2021 project included only features on the State Highway System but the 2023 project was expanded to include some types of features along connecting and peripheral (non-state) routes, generally within 2 blocks or ½ mile of the State Highway System, since some KDOT assets exist there.

They are not being directly edited in any way. These GIS data extracts are being used indirectly by KDOT to maintain, improve and review data in other systems. They are “snapshots” of the time they were collected.

Street Smart™ is Cyclomedia’s interactive web viewer for content and data they produce, including GeoCycloramas and point clouds. Each GIS feature from the Mobile LiDAR project includes a link to this system that takes the user directly to or adjacent to the related feature in that system, with the camera oriented toward the asset. Access to KDOT’s data in that application is controlled by KDOT and provided only to its staff and approved contractors. Please see the contact information to request access.

You are welcome to report any problems you have identified with the GIS data collected as part of the Mobile LiDAR project to KDOT using provided contact information on this website. Please keep in mind when these data were collected since assets along the State Highway System are subject to change, maintenance, updates and, in some cases, to weather or other natural phenomena.
