KDOT is making multiple investments along K-156 in Finney and Hodgeman counties to address safety concerns, enhance economic growth and keep Kansans moving.

KDOT is investing more than $100 million in Finney and Hodgeman County highway infrastructure to address safety concerns and support economic growth in the region. There are multiple projects in various stages along K-156 including pavement preservation, pavement widening, improving drainage structures and bridge replacements.

K-156 Pavement Widening and Bridge Replacement in Finney County

This project will resurface K-156 and add shoulders, replacing two bridges and four culverts from the west K-23/K-156 junction east to the Hodgeman County line, about 12.9 miles. The estimated construction cost is $18.1 million.

Location Project extends from the west K-23/K-156 junction east to the Hodgeman County line
Scope Road will be resurfaced and have shoulders added. Two bridges and multiple drainage structures will also be replaced.
Approximate Length 12.9 miles
Project Timeline Construction is anticipated in 2028 but is pending selection to the Construction pipeline.
Construction Cost $18.1 million

K-156 Pavement Widening and Bridge Replacement in Hodgeman County

This project will resurface K-156 and add shoulders on about 15 miles of K-156. The project corridor begins four miles west of the U.S. 283 junction near Jetmore to 228 Road north of Hanston. Construction cost is $21.5 million.

Timeline

  • Phase 1: Minimal impacts to traffic (November 2024-February 2025)
  • Phase 2: Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic lights (March-July 2025)
  • Phase 3: Road closure on section of K-156 west of Jetmore will be required to flatten the existing profile and reconstruct the roadway; state detour will be used to redirect traffic using U.S. 283, U.S. 50 and K-23 for 90 days. (Summer-Fall 2025)
