KDOT Transportation Safety is focused on how data-driven approaches, collaboration and comprehensive strategies influence the safety of Kansas roadways. Transportation Safety is the designated State Highway Safety Office of Kansas, responsible for State, NHTSA and FHWA safety programs and reporting requirements. Transportation Safety concentrates in three areas:
These areas are equally committed to the Drive to Zero (DTZ) mission, which aims to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes on all public roads in Kansas.
KDOT Transportation Safety uses data to identify and apply effective safety measures across Kansas. Using the Safe System Approach, outlined by the DTZ initiative, they develop and deliver strategies in education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response through various campaigns, projects, programs, policies, and partnerships to improve road safety for all road users.
