Home MenuU.S. 83 Reconstruction and Passing Lanes in Finney County
Project Description
KDOT is reconstructing nearly 13 miles of U.S. 83 from just north of the Finney/Haskell County line to the Arkansas River bridge, south of Garden City in Finney County.
This portion of U.S. 83 is being redesigned as a two-lane highway with a focus on safety by consolidating highway access points, improving intersection angles and adding turn lanes and lighting. The bridge over the Arkansas River will be repaired.
Once complete, the project will increase capacity and reduce congestion with the addition of passing lanes. U.S. 83 is being realigned south of the Buffalo Dunes Golf Course to accommodate a potential future four-lane expansion (not yet included).
The intersection of U.S. 83 and Annie Scheer Road will be reconfigured to increase visibility and improve the angle of the intersection. The south entrance to the Southwind neighborhood will remain open based on community feedback received. The north entrance to Southwind will be realigned with dedicated turn lanes added.
Construction is anticipated to begin in summer of 2025 and is estimated to be complete in 2028.
