Project Description

KDOT is working on plans to improve the K-32/158th Street intersection in Leavenworth County. This intersection is located approximately 1.7 miles south of I-70 and four miles west of K-7, just west of Bonner Springs. K-32 is a two-lane undivided highway and 158th Street is a two-lane undivided county road with auxiliary lanes on the segment north of the intersection, and a two-lane undivided county road on the segment south of the intersection.

An engineering study was completed for the intersection in December 2020. Crash data showed that crashes at this intersection exceeded the statewide average for rural intersections. Study recommendations included construction of a single-lane roundabout to replace the traditional intersection and reducing the elevation on the roadway segment east of the intersection to improve sight distance.

This intersection serves residents, businesses and three nearby schools.
