Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Match Pilot Program provides funding aimed at reducing transportation fatalities and injuries on Kansas roadways.
As of 2024, Kansas applicants have been awarded over $19.7 million from the U.S. DOT and over $4 million from state funds to improve safety on roads and streets. Currently, over 80% of the Kansas population lives in areas covered by safety action plans aimed at reducing or eliminating serious-injury and fatal crashes affecting all roadway users.
See the list of Kansas SS4A Recipients.
Funding
SS4A is a 5-year, $5 billion federal program. The program covers up to 80% of project costs through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), with local public agencies covering the rest. The Build Kansas Matching Fund (Build Kansas Fund) can provide up to $200M in state matching dollars for eligible entities applying for an infrastructure-related grant program for projects in Kansas.
Eligibility
The Build Kansas Fund must be used for grants with a federal match requirement under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). There are four eligibility requirements for the Build Kansas Fund:
- Eligible for and applying to a viable BIL funding opportunity.
- Have a required non-federal match component.
- The primary project zip code must be located in Kansas.
- Must submit your Build Kansas Fund application on or before the federal BIL application due date.
Selection Process
USDOT’s Notice of Funding Opportunity for 2024 is closed. The FY25 Notice of Funding Opportunity is expected to be released in early 2025, and by statute must be released on or before March 30, 2025.
