Daniel Kraft is retiring from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) following 36 years of service to the agency. His last day is Sept. 19.
Kraft began his career in 1986 at Burlington. When the Burlington office closed in the late 1990s, he transferred to the Yates Center Subarea Office where he is retiring as an Equipment Operator Senior. “I enjoy all of it,” he said about his work maintaining and removing snow and ice from state highways in the area. Kraft found clearing black ice from roadways during the winter to be especially challenging: “It just doesn’t get any slicker than that.”
He lives in Gridley and has three children and five grandchildren. “Family will definitely be first on the agenda” in retirement, Kraft said. He also plans to hunt and fish and stay busy doing odd jobs.
