Pavement improvement work will begin tomorrow, Saturday, June 4, on eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 (U.S. 40), from K-16 to K-32, weather permitting.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), this pavement improvement project will include pavement patching, asphalt overlay, centerline rumble strip and pavement marking work.
While work is taking place, eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 (U.S. 40) traffic will be restricted to one lane, with a 12 foot width restriction, and directed by a pilot car, flaggers, signs and cones.
Portable message boards are in place in the area in advance of the project. Motorists should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes and add extra time in their travel schedules.
Project work will occur Monday to Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and is expected to be completed in early July.
Superior Bowen of Kansas City, Mo., is the contractor for the $1.2 million project.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas, go to www.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1.
