I-70 exit ramp to be closed at Chapman Creek for bridge replacement

Post Date:05/05/2021

Beginning Monday, May 10, the Kansas Department of Transportation will close the westbound ramp on I-70 at Chapman Creek, exit 286, in Dickinson County to begin replacement of the westbound bridge. Replacement of the westbound bridge is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021, weather permitting. The eastbound bridge will be replaced next, in the spring through the fall of 2022.

Construction will take place during daylight hours and traffic will be reduced to one 16.5-foot lane at a reduced speed of 60 mph through the work zone. Traffic will follow a signed detour utilizing exit 281 and K-43. Drivers should expect minor delays, not exceeding five minutes.

Reece Construction of Salina is the primary contractor for this $5.7 million project. The contractor has scheduled bridge replacements to be completed by November 2022.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas, go to www.kandrive.gov or call 5-1-1.
