Twelve-year-old Megan Barnhart of Olpe is one of three northeast Kansas winners in the 2022 “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day” poster contest. Megan is the daughter of Les and Michelle Barnhart.
Each winner receives a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas. Megan’s prizes were presented to her by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Highway Patrol at her school, Olpe Junior High, on Thursday, Nov. 10.
A total of 497 kids across Kansas ages 5 to 13 took the time to think about safety and participated in the contest. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
