The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has completed the Environmental Assessment (EA) conducted as part of the proposed U.S. 54/East Kellogg improvements project. The document was posted today on the project website, eastkellogg.ksdotike.org, and will be available for public comment through Dec. 2.

KDOT proposes to improve U.S. 54/East Kellogg in two phases – from the K-96 interchange in east Wichita through 159th Street in Andover and from east of 159th Street to east of Prairie Creek Road in Andover. Within the EA, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and KDOT evaluated the benefits and impacts of proposed improvements of the proposed project to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

The public may view hard copies at the following locations:

In addition, KDOT is hosting an open house-style public hearing about the project on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sunflower Elementary School Gymnasium, 616 E. Douglas, Andover. Attendees will have an opportunity to review and comment on the EA document, view information on the environmental findings from the study and view updated designs for the Phase 1 and Phase 2 proposed improvements. KDOT Staff and project team will be present to answer questions. No formal presentation will be given at the meeting, and attendees are welcome to come and go at any time during the event between 5:00 and 7:00.

Phase 1 of the East Kellogg corridor project is fully funded for construction. Phase 2 is being included in the EA so that FHWA approval can be obtained, and the project can move forward for development when funding is available.

For those who are unable to attend, public hearing materials and an online comment form will be provided on the project website from Nov. 17 to Dec. 2.
