A detour for a passing lane project on U.S. 54 near Mullinville is expected to be delayed to around Monday, Jan. 15. It had previously been expected to start around Monday, Jan. 8.
The Kansas Department of Transportation project involves new passing lanes 1 mile east of the Ford/Kiowa county line and west of Mullinville. The project involves grading and surfacing and is about 2 miles long.
The work began in late October and is expected to be completed around mid-April.
During the initial work, there has been minimal impact on traffic. Starting around Jan. 15, motorists will be directed to a detour onto K-34 and U.S. 400.
Venture Corp., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor for the $7,817,984 project.
