A Kansas Department of Transportation bridge improvement project on northbound and southbound I-435, over Midland Drive, is scheduled to start preliminary work on Monday, June 17, in Johnson County, weather permitting.
For the duration of the project, work will take place Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Saturday work scheduled, as needed.
Message boards have been posted in the area to alert motorists of the upcoming project. A news release next week will provide project phasing details, upcoming closure locations and detour descriptions.
Traffic will be controlled using lane and ramp closures, barrier walls, portable message signs, signage and traffic cones.
Clarkson Construction, of Kansas City, Mo., is the contractor for the $9.7 million project, which is scheduled to be shut down for the winter in December and resume in March 2025. Work on the southbound I-435 bridge over Midland Drive will begin next year and the project is expected to be completed in November 2025, weather permitting.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas go to www.kandrive.gov or call 5-1-1. Drive safely and always wear your seat belt.
