PLEASE NOTE: The lane reductions on eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 will begin on Monday, April 22, conditions permitting. The information below has been revised. 

Traffic changes are expected to begin next week on the Kansas Department of Transportation’s reconstruction project on U.S. 24 in north Topeka. Beginning Monday, April 22, westbound U.S. 24 will be reduced to one lane from approximately Goldwater Road to Topeka Boulevard. The same area of eastbound U.S. 24 will be reduced by mid-week.

The south tie-in of the Kansas Avenue intersection will also close at U.S. 24, and the north tie-in will close the following Monday, April 29. Motorists can follow the marked detour on Topeka Boulevard or use other routes.

The traffic changes will allow crews to build temporary roadways, known as shoo-flies, between U.S. 24 and the adjacent frontage roads. The shoo-flies are expected to be complete in May and will then be used to shift traffic onto the frontage roads while U.S. 24 is reconstructed in the area. This phase of the project should be complete by December.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting.
